Top Invasive Insects in the Credit River Watershed
Presented by Credit Valley Conservation
Learn about Invasives
This webinar is part of CVC’s month-long Nature Invaders Invasive Species Scavenger Hunt–an interactive citizen science project to help rural and urban landowners stop the spread of invasive species on their properties and in their communities. Learn more about the Scavenger Hunt and how to participate here.
Join CVC’s stewardship team and invasive species experts to learn about the most common invasive insects in the Credit River Watershed, such as woolly adelgid, spongy (LDD) moth and emerald ash borer. Find out what impact they have on our properties and natural spaces, what municipalities and other organizations are doing to stop them, and what you can do to help.
Bring your questions or submit them in advance during registration. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentation.
Invasive insects affect the health of the environment and harm native plants and wildlife. They can alter or destroy local landscapes—from neighbourhood street trees to entire forests.
Nature Invaders Scavenger Hunt
Presented by Credit Valley Conservation
Join us for an Invasive Species Scavenger Hunt
Urban and rural homeowners from across the Credit River Watershed are invited to participate in an interactive invasive species scavenger hunt. Discover whether you have invasive species on your property and learn about what you can do to stop them from spreading and how CVC can help.
Win a Native Plant Prize Pack
When you register and participate in the webinars or scavenger hunt, you’ll be eligible to enter into a draw for a native plant prize pack. Read the contest rules.
Why Participate?
Invasive species are aggressive, non-native plants or animals that can take over your yard and garden, harm the local environment, and reduce the beauty and enjoyment of your property and the natural areas in your community. Stop them before they spread to avoid infestations and time consuming and costly removal.
How to Participate
Participate in the Scavenger Hunt by recording your suspected invasive species sightings using iNaturalist—an easy-to-use citizen science app that helps you identify plants and animals from photographs you take with your phone or tablet.
When you register for the event, we’ll send you instructions on how to join CVC’s iNaturalist Nature Invaders project. You’ll get access to helpful information and resources about invasive species and what to look for. Use iNaturalist’s database and user community to identify the plants you see on your property. Attend one of our supporting events to engage with CVC’s experts and learn more about what you can do to stop the spread of invasive species on your property and in your community.
Who should participate?
Urban and rural landowners in the Credit River Watershed are invited to participate. While we encourage everyone to use iNaturalist to discover the plants on their properties, our programs and services are specifically for watershed residents. Check if you live in the watershed using our property look-up map.
When to participate
The Scavenger Hunt officially takes place June 24-July 31. But you can use iNaturalist at any time to identify and report the plants you find on your property. All watershed landowners who register and participate in the Scavenger Hunt will be entered into a draw to win a native plant prize pack. The winner will be notified by email August 1.
